BOROUGH LOAN PROPOSALS.
MEETING OF RATEPAYERS.
The meeting o£ ratepayer* held in the Municipal Hall Inst evening for the purpose of having the loan proposals explained, was poorly attended. The majority of tho councillors were present and Cr Martin was voted to the choir* Tbe Mayor cleßrly explained the position of the borough with respect to tho loan which was rendered necessary by the Auditor-General objecting to tho paying for the stone crushing plant! out of loan money. Personally, ho differed from tin attitude taken up by the Depcrtment, but tbe Council had given a pledge to the Department to have the matter adjusted. He pointed out tbe urgency of having the loan raised, which meant that the ratepayers would have 3GJ years to repay it as compared with meeting it out of District Fund Account immediately. This would be a distinct advantage to the ratepayers and would mean a greatly increased rate if any work was to be carried on. The councillors also spoke in favour of the proposals arid urged the ratepayers to record their votea on Friday. At the conclusion a hearty vote|Jof thanks was accorded the Mayor by acclamation.
