MANGAKOKOPU ROAD.

The following communication has been received by the secretary uf the Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce — "Referring to your representations urging the necessity of providing means of communication for the settlers on what you describe as the Moetatoa break in the Mangakokopu road with the railway, I have to state that this matcer has been investigated on previous occasions. From the information furnished by the resident engineer there seems to be no question tbat Pomorangi road should be first completed, as it is useless widening Mangakokopu road until the Pomorangi road iB widened. Furthermore. Pomorangi road, where the widening is still required, traverses country on which a road will be easier to make and maintain than the Mangakokopu. Tha grades will be fairly level and its completion will give access to a number of settlsrs If the Mangakokopu road were first completed it would cost far more to make and maintain, as it is located along a very steep sideling, and along a very steep grade —about 1 in 13 for nearly two miles. Even if this road were widened and the Pomorangi road left unwidened, the settlers would be no better off. —W. Fraser, Minister of Public Works."
