BOWLING.

The teams of the Tn Kuiti Club which took part in the New Year tournament at Te Aroha performed very well. The No. 1 team tied in their section but got defeated in the play-off, while the No. 2 team, though not ao successful in the section play, had the distinction of defeating WeHt End, the ultimate winners oC 'tie medals. The returned bowlers all apeak in the highe?t terms of the treatment received and a most en* joyable holiday was spent. Di-rlag the course cf the tournament mo heat was intense, and several of the playerß, including J. William;!, skip of the No. 1 team, suffered considerably. Mr Williams waa unfortunately unable to play in the final tiea, and the team was handicapped in having to play a substitute. Williams and Matthew did well in the pairs competition. There were some strong couples to meet, and the form shown by the Te Kuiti players was excellent.

The local green has be<m well patronised during the holidays, and among those who trundled a holiday bowl waa Mr C. K. Wilson, M.P. Mr Wilson ifl more at home on tho tennis rourta, but his form on the green indicates that when he takes on bowls in earnest he will have to bo reckoned with.

Returned players from Te Aroha agree that the form shown by J. F. Walßh was the best he has given. It ia always pleasing to see good form shown by a colt, and this player's chanceß in a team for the South Auckland tournament must be strengthened by his recent showing. - Steel, who was to mve played No. 2in Williams' team at Te Aroha, could not make the trip and his place was taken by Sharpies, whuse form was up to a hign standard throughout. With a little more attention to practice the latter would be well in the running for high honours.
