The Council resolved to f.roiest against the gazetting of roads as county roads until thej' have been formed tc 14 feet, ;:; Tbe district engineer promised an engineering survey of the Muturangi road as soon as possible. The district engineer thanked the Council for its offer of the use of_ a grader for work on the PirongiaKawhia road.—lt was decided to put the grader on the road at the first opportunity. The Prime Minister thanked the Council for its resolution expressing appreciation of the action of the Minister of Justice and himself in connection with the strike. The weather during the past month has been very bad. causing considerable damage to all roads throughout the County, 2nd it has been necessary tc employ a large number of men clearing slips and generally repairing the roads. Owing to the extremely bad weather experienced I have been unable to commence work with the grader, but it has been set up and men and hcrse3 are encamped at Kinohaku in readiness to commence immediately weather will permit. The Public Works Department have accepted the Councils offer of the loan of the road grader to repair the Pirongia to Kawhia road reform the township boundary tto the junction of the Kawhia to Actea road, as the work cf the Council will require the.use or the grader for sometime to come I would advise, in order to keep faith with the Government, that the grader owned by Mr R. Corlett be hired and loaned in place of the Council's grader, the amount of hire being the Council's contribution towards the cost of the work. A3 it has been definitely decided to raise the loan for metalling the Awarna to Mahoa road I would advise that the work of re-forming and preparing the road for metalling be proceeded with at once, as it is desirable that this work be completed sometime before the metal is laid, and I propose to employ the grader and scoops on this work as soon as the work at Kinohaku is completed. Mr F. G. Stokes has made all preparation to recommence work on the Okunata road metalling as soon ss weather will permit. The crusher hs3 been set up and in working orders, and sufficient metal has been quarried to insure a good start immediately the weather is favourable. The works

•iow in hand include only one foliation contract which is one the Kauri road, and.as this includes a good deal of dray work I have Been obliged to suspend work until the weather i 3 mora favourable. The plana and cifications for constructing tha Kinohafcu to Waiharakeke road have not been approved by the Public Works Department, th?y requesting that the width of this and future work on all roads be reduced to 10 feet I desire your instructions before proceeding further with this work.
