A Maori for being drunk when in charge of a horse was fined 10s and cost, while another native was mulct in a penalty of 5a for drunkenness. A man named Nelaon, charged with drunkenness and the theft of a half a crown was fined 5s on each charge and ordered to return the coin in dispute. It appeared the man hßd been offered half a crown for a bottle of beer in the train. He had picked up the coin but refused to pi»rt with the liquor.
