MANGAORONGA BRANCH. Own Correspondent. A meeting of the above union was held at Rangiatea eehonlhome on July 7th. There were present—the chairman, Mr Sircouibe, secretary, Mr Swainson, and thirteen members. Messrs Somerville, Gadßby, Geo. Budge and MacLuckie were elected members. Regarding the large block of some 10,000 acres lying east of Maihiihi. The secretary reported having written to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, whilst the Land Beard was sitting in Auckland, urging him to open up the block. In answer to letter from Kio Kio branch on the matter of forming a new county, the secretary was instructed to write suggesting the feelings of the settlers of the districts concerned be obtained; that a meeting of their delegates be held and an organiser be appointed. The resolution passed by the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce regarding the danger of level crossings was endorsed, and the matter is to be brought before the notice of the Prime Minister. A resolution was passed drawing attention to the growth of Canadian thistle in the surrounding districts and the secretary of Otewa branch be written to asking his assistance in eradicating the weed. A-i the ox-eyed daisy is spreading into the West Taupo County endeav ours are to be made to have the weed declared under the Noxious Weeds Act in the Waitomo County. It was agreed that subjects of intereat be discussed at meetings if possible, one member to lecture on one subject at each meeting. Mr Sircombe offered to erect finger posts on the road to Oturohanga if the road engineer would bear the cost of material. Mr Corboy was requested to write the Education Department concerning the right of way from the main road to the Mangaoronga school.
