Sir Geo. H. Reid, in a speech aboard H.M.A.s Australia, paid a tribute to the King's warm interest in the Australian Navy. He thanked the Admiralty for its co-operation in making the Navy a success. Australians were building a JMavy, not because they were colonial 3, but because they were Britishers responding to the call of the sea. Australia's object was selfdefence preservation, not destruction. Admiral Patey declared that the King, in honouring him by conferring a Knighthood upon him, was honouring the Australian Navy.
