POST OFFICE BANK RETURN. During the year 1912 the bminesa the business done by the post office savings banks throughout the colony was a record. According to the report of the bank business, the figures for the past two year 3 were asunder:— Banks open at end of year 724 in 1912, 687 in 1911; number of deposits received £877,889 amount of deposit, £11,725,182 £11,627,367; average amount of deposit, £l3 7s Id—£l4 2s 3d; amount of withdrawals, £11,449,711 £10,662,045 average of withdrawals, £l9 Ss 6d—£l9 10s 6d excess of deposits over withdrawals, £275,471 — £965,321 interest for the year, 698—£472,874; totafamount at credit of all account?, £16,330,257 543,86 number of new accounts, 85,529—85.912; accounts closed, 58,896 —60,9311; accounts open.. 432,199 405,566; number of withdrawals, 49,388—46,022; averageTamount per account, £37 15s Bd—£3B 6s 6d. In the Auckland district there were last year 18,804 new depositors, and a total of 753,303. At the end of the year the amount at credit was £2,962,194, or an average per account of £39 6s. The details for Christchurch shjwed that 10728 new accounts were opened for the year, and 7563 closed, leaving 70,699 open at the end of the period. The amount at credit was £2,562,701, and the average depositor was £26 5s The figures for the Dunedin district showed 7615 new depositors, j and a total at the end of the period of 51,155 with £2,240,745, at credit or an average sum of £43 16s Id.
