WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING,

The monthly meeting of the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held on Thursday, the chairman, Mr J. P. Baillie, presiding. There were also present Messrs C. W. Keeley, Dickinson, Boddie, Ryburn. Pateraon, Bollard, Shaw, Teasdale, Finch and McKinnn.

Dr Makgill, district health officer, wrote that the board's approval of a rise in Inspector Bennett's salary of £ls had been laid before the Minister, but unfortunately an error had been made and £7 10s placed upon the estimates. As this could not be adjusted during the present financial year he suggested that the board pay the inspector the balance of £7 10s, the d ffrence to be adjusted on the next estimates —This was agreed to.

Dr Makgill also wrote that he was sending Mr E. Calderwood to take up the duties of inspector to the board at the southern end of the district. Mr Calderwood held the certificate of Sanitary Inspector of Scotland in Sanitary Science., and has had practical experience in this work in Scotland. The writer suggested that it would be best to station Mr Calderwood at Taumarunui and give him charge of all the district along the Main Trunk line as far north, and including, Te Kuiti borough—an area including Kaitieke, Ohura and Awakino Counties, and the southern end of the Waitomo and West Taupo Counties. Mr Calderwood would report himself for duty at Hamilton, and Dr Makgill suggested that Mr Bennett should accompany him to his district and show him the various matters lately claiming attention.—The secretary reported that Mr Calderwood was now in his district with Inspector Bennett.

Representation. The InspectorGeneral, Dr T. H. Valintine, wrote stating that the appointment of repre sentation was now being finally prepared, and there had been some alterations owing to later figures as regards valuation, etc. The representation for the Waikato district was—Waikato County and Huntly Town District, 3; Hamilton Borough, 1; Waipa County and Frankton Town District, 2; Cambridge Borough, Morrinsville Town District and Te Aroha Borough, 1; Piako County, 1; Raglan County, 1; Te Kuiti Borough, Waitomo County and Ohura County, 2; Kawhia and Awakino Counties, 1; Taupo East and West Counties, 1; Kaitieke County and Taumarunui Borough, 1; Matamata and Rotorua Counties, 1; Rotorua Town, I.—The board decided to ask the department to hold the matter over to April next, pendnig the ne.w valuation.

A Busy Hospital —The clerk to the Taumarunui Borough Council wrote enclosing the following resolution passed by his council: "That owing to the hospital being heavily taxed on account of the unusual amount of sickness at Taumarunui, that it be a recommendation to the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to instal a cook at the hospital, this being deemed necessary on account of the heavy strain on the nurses of the institution."—The secretary said that owing to the rush of patients it was found necessary to have a cook, and one was appointed.
