In his report <o the Cook Hospitßl Board, Inspector York reported that at Murawai the natives held a tangi at which the lid was taken from a coflin containing the body of a native who had died from typhoid. Subsequently four cases of typhoid occurred m the neighbourhood, at least one of which was caused through this tangi; Mr also atated~that a Coffin with the iKiiiv of a Maori who died on March 1 nth last is still unprotected on the surface of the ground at the Wainui native burial ground.
