EMPIRE LIVING PICTURES. j On Monday evening next the above ' company will put on a programme at Te Kuiti Town Hall that is described by the Hamilton papers, where it has ; drawn record houses during the week, ias one of the very best ever seen. Among other items will be the great : picture '"'SemiramH, Queen of Babylon," which is said to be the most : dazzlingly beautiful coloured subject j ever produced by cinematography. ' The Auckland "Herald," referring to its recent production in that city, says: "Never has such .voluptuous ! beauty and Oriental magnificence been presented; it is one of Pathe Frere's most magnificent creations, distinguished by its beautiful colouring and is conception of life, in the dawn of history. From start to finish it is a masterpiece in beauty, the scenes showing the Queen's armies marching to war, return of the victors and the death of Semiramis after which she is borne to Heaven by doves, and the destruction of Babylon being of the most superb description." Besides this great picture, the programme will include some magnificent scenics, a fine industrial sbuject entitled "The Bees," an interesting novelty picture, several splendid dramas, and a number of amusing comics, in which Foolshead will play an important part. On Wednesday evening last, when this programme was produced in Hamilton the large Town Hall was packed with a most enthusiastic audience. It is a programme that should not be missed by all lovers of beautiful pictures.
WIRTH BROS.' CIRCUS AND MENAGERIE. Wirt!) Bros.' greatest show on earth will perform in Te Kuiti on Tuesday, 7th March, for one night only, in its entirety. We are assured that the whole of the enormous enterprise will be here, as the Wirth Bros, never divide, but travel and perform everything everywhere. The circus this season is full of novel, original and daring features engaged from the best circuses and music halls in the world. Each year Messrs Wirth Bros, introduce new and sensational specialities, and since the visit of this worldrenowned circus, two years ago many additions to both circus and menagerie have been secured. Amongst the circus artists to appear here are the wonderful Frantz troupe of society acrobats; the Healys in their marvellous and unique barrel jumping act, somersaulting in and out of ordinary barrels in a wonderful fashion ; Mdlle. Millie Sagmar, with her beautiful school of trained dogs and ponies; the tossing testros marvellous equilibrists and jugglers; the Lentons, acrobatic comedy actors; Misses Daisy and May Harlev, aerialists; Misses Rill, Stella, and May Martin graceful equestriennes; Madame Edith Cooke and Marizles in beautiful menage act ci) two thoroughbred horses; the Willey Coke Bros.' bounding jockeys and mashers on horseback; the Christies, Raymond, the gaol-breaker; and dozens of clowns, augusts, and comedy men specially engaged for this season. Besides the wonderful circus aggregation the huge menagerie is filled with dens of the fiercest and most unique animals, gathered from every land and clime, and includes a herd of seven performing elephants; an arena full of lions, tigers, bear wolves, leopards, jaguars, kangaroos, dogs, and ponies all performing together — truly a great gathering-—and for the first time in our town a real live hippopotamus, which cost the Wirth Bros. £l2oo. A new departure, and one that will be greatly appreciated in an elevated chair platform, which is now carried with the show, and on which chairs may be reserved. The large zoo will be open in the afternoon from 4 to 5 p.m. MILITARY CONCERT COMPANY. The Military Concert party, which is announced to appear in Te Kuiti on Wednesday next, should meet with an enthusiastic reception. In Hamilton, Cambridge and other places they have appeared with great success, and have been the means of greatly helping the Territorial movement. Short addresses on military subjects are to be given at intervals during the concert by Colonel Bell and others, and the names of those wishful to enrol will be taken at the close of the concert. Colonel Bell has been appointed to organise the South Auckland district, and battalions are being raised in Te Kuiti. Hamilton and Cambridge. The necessity for our young men coming forward to enrol has been emphasised before. Te Kuiti should easily provide the 120 necessary to form the first battalion raised.
