THE WRECK OF THE 'SCRAPE-THE-SKY.

It was the airship Scrape-the-sky, That sailed o'er the sleeping town, And the skipper had taken a featherbod, > That, he might come easily down. i Blue way ■ his nose with frosty air, ; His feet, were cold as clay, As he shaped his course for the Great Bear, And flapped upon his way. "Oh, father, I hear the church bells ring !" His hoy on the bowsprit roared. Then the father seized the featheri bed, j And heaved it overboard. s ! "Oh, father, I hear the newsboy j shout I Oh, say what it may be ?" j 'Tis ths Budget battle," the skipj per cried, i As the biplane scraped a tree. j : Then up and spake an aeronaut, Who tended the petrol-tank. I "I pray you steer a speedy course For yonder mossy bank. Last night I dreamed an awful dream I saw the aero burst !" But the skipper answered never { word As he deftly quenched his thirst. Then fast they flew through the starry sky, Till they struck with a shivering shock, i And hung like the washing, high and dry, On a church-spire weathercock. Their great, propeller ceased to hum, The engine stopped its beat, And the skipper thought of kingdomcome As he journeyed to the street. j Such was the wreck of the Scrape- | the-Sky | On an ancient, weather-vane, i Oh, save us all from the wish to fly j In the clouds on an aeroplane ! i
