Every progressive dairyman now recognises the value of purebred stock with a milking pedigree, and many find it more profitable to raise their own bulls for breeding stock than to buy them as required.

Very few dairymen can at the start buy purebred stock solely. The alternative in for each to make the best of such cows as can be obtained. This can only be done by following on the lines of pure breeding.

The Prince of Wales and his brother, Prince Albert will, according to "Truth," leave England twelve months hence on a voyage round the world, during which they will visit the principal parts of the Empire. On their return the Prince of Wales will go into the Army and Prince Albert into the Navy.

What was probably the largest sale ever held in the Dominion of purebred Shorthorns of the milking strain took place at Addington on the Bth inst., when 70 head of cows, heifers and bulls from Mr Arthur Chamberlain's noted herd were disposed of at auction. The attendance was large and included buyers from the North Island, Blenhiem and Otago. The largest purchaser was Mr K. Acton-Adams, of Moa Flat, Otago. There was a good demand, especially for young bulls, and seme of the cows and heifers also met with good competition. The imported bull, Charming Count, was sold at 85 guineas to Mr W. G. Park, Waikato. Eighteen months to two year bulls made 25 guineas to 33 guineas, yearling bulls 12 guineas to 30 guineas, bull calves 2 guineas to 6 guineas, cows 9 guineas to 16 guineas, three year heifers 9 guineas to. 27 guineas, two year heifers 9 guineas to 20 guineas, yearling heifres 6 guineas to 26 guineas, heifer calves 4 guineas to 8 guineas.
