BUILDING PROGRESS.
The fact that the new by-laws came into force yesterday may or may not have influenced the rapidity wtih which new buildings have been erected in Te Kuiti recently, but it is certain that with the better weather now being experienced builders have undoubtedly pushed on with a large number of structures in the town. Amongst a number of others in Rora street might be mentioned the new building for Mr Geo. Prime, which Mr T. Patterson has just erected. It comprises a couple of shops facing on to the main street, and immediately behind is one of the largest rooms in Te Kuiti, measuring 21ft by 100 ft. This room is to be fitted with four billiard tables, and will supply a requirement for the many visitors and residents who take an interest in that fascinating game. Mr V. Morgan has been entrusted with the painting work, and the whole is a creditable production.
Next door a large structure just completed calls for attention. It has been built by Mr Jas. Dunning, and will be occupied by Messrs Blackman and Cobb, as soon as it is out of the painter's hands. The frontage covers 30 feet, divided in the centre by double doors leading to the two sides of the store, and to the suites of offices upstairs. The ceilings have been constructed of steel, embossed in tasteful designs, and painted white. The building as a whole will be white and should be a prominent land mark on Rora street when lighted by the "Lux" light later on. The large main room measures 30ft by. 40ft, and there are a couple of small rooms behind. Messrs Clapham and White are the contractors and Mr W. Hicks the painter. A feature of the front is the verandah, which is constructed to light the shop, instead of darkening it as frequently occurs.
