Victoria, in their first innings, had made 301, and South Africa in their first innings had made IS9 runs. Following on the South Africans scored as follows in their second innings - Snooke, 6; Zulch, 13, Sherwell, 1; Nourse, 40; Faulkner, 69; Schwarz, 0; Llewellyn, 16; Strieker, 1; Vogler, 12; Cornmaille, not out, 23; Pegler, 0; sundries, 15; total, 236. Bowling analysis.--Facy, one wicket for 46 runs; Hazzlitt, one. for 29; Armstrong, two for 42; Laver, two for 65; Matthews, three for 23; Warne, none for 6. In their second innings Victoria have lost four wickets for 58 runs. Warne, 16; Smith, 21; Seitz, run out, 14; Kortlang, not o'.",t, 4; Laver, 1.b.w., 0; Carkeek. not out 2; sundries, 1. ;
The attendance was about 4600. The South Africans gave a disappointing display except Nourse and Faulkner, these two making 84 runs; Strieker and Cornmaille added 61, whilst Schwarz's hit his second ball wild and was caught at third man. Llewellyn made things lively until caught in the long-field. Matthews bowled splendidly. Warne and Smith opened for Victoria in their second innings to the bowling of Schwarz and Vogler. Smith made things lively for a quarter of an hour, scoring 21, but slogged at and was deceived by one of; Vogler's "googlies." Warne also fell a victim to Vogler, with a fast ball. Seiz was foolishly run out, and Laver was dismissed leg before.
