SLY-GROG SELLING.
The number of charges laid for sly grog-selling in the Dominion during ber of convictions recorded, is set out in a return which was laid on the table of the House of Representatives, the other day at the instance of Mr Arnold (Dunedin Central). In 1008 there were 156 charges and 100 convictions, whilst in 1909 there were 260 charges and 156 convictions. The figures for 1908 are as under, the charges being given first and the convictions next, with the figures for 1909 in parentheses:—Bay of Islands 4—l (2—l), Marsden nil (9—B), Auckland 4—3' (20—18), Franklin nil (1—1), Thames I—o (nil), Ohinemuri nil (37 —25), Tauranga 3—o (nil), Bay of Plenty 3--2 (nil), Gisborne nil (B—s), Napier 11—7 (5—5), Masterton nil (20—0), Taumartinui 22—21 (37—22), Tar3naki nil (.1 tikei 7 5 2—2 (, Wanganui I—l (nil), Oroua nil (3—3), Manawatu nil (4—l), Wellington 29 —22 (23—21), Mctueka I- 0 (nil), West Sand 1— 1 (nil), Christchurch 5—5 (S 7), Ashburton 5 4 (22- 3), Timaru 4 1 (nil), Oamaru 4 -2 (16 5), Tuapeka 1 -1 (1—0), Dunedin 10- 6 (9—6), Bruce nil (4-1), Clntha 3- 2 (1 - 1), Matuara 13—5 (14—6)', 24—11 (13—5).
