LOCAL BODIES LOANS.
As an instance of the prompt manner in which the superintendent of the State Guaranteed Advances Department (Mr J. W. Poynton), and his staff meet the requirements of local bodies in expediting the granting of loans the following illustration will not be out of place. Last week the Raglan County completed the steps of raising a loan of £4500 for metalling in the Pukekawa district. On Friday, the papers covering the whole procedure were posted to Wellington, and on Tuesday afternoon the council was advised by wire that the loan was finally approved and after the completion of the necessary debentures the money would be at once available. Considering that the papers did not reach the department until Monday morning and that they had to be carefully perused before final approval, the department certainly lost no time in completing the matter.
