TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

Monthly Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Board was held on Tuesday. Present —The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr F. Simpson) in the chair, Messrs Heslop, Kennedy, Rattenbury, and M'Cluggage. Transfers.— F. Williams waited on the board with reference to his application to transfer section 23, block 15, Aria, to W. A. Carter. He stated that he was unable to sell to anyone except to a neighbour, as the section was too small. It was necessary for the state of his wife's health that she should reside near medical aid. Mr Carter was also present. The matter was dealt with in committee. —T. Hastie waited on the board in support of his application to transfer sections 11 and 12, block 13 Mahoe, and sections 9, 10, 12, 13, and 14, block 1, Taurakawa, to H. F. T. Flyger, and of his wife J. E. Hastie to transfer sections 21 and 22. block 16, Ngatirimu, and section 20, block 13, Mahoe, to the same person. Mr Flyger was also present. The board went into committee. —D. Love waited on the board in support of an application by F. Blomfield to tranfser section 4. block 8, Ohura, to him. Dealt with in committee. —W. G. Fargie waited on the board in regard to the application of W. Telfar to transfer section 4, block 14, Aria, to Mrs A. C. S. Fargie. He stated that his wife was prepared to reside so soon as a suitable house could be erected. He undertook to dispose of his Whangamomona property as soon was possible to do so. Dealt with in committee. —T. A. Randolph waited on the board and applied to transfer a half interest in section 4, block 12, Omona, to John McLeod, instead of the original intention to sublet to him. He explained that he was in business as storekeeper at Utiku and had been trying to dispose of it for some time. Dealt with in committee. —The applications to transfer, which were before the last meeting of the board, were dealt with as follows: —R. A. H. Herbertson to W. J. E. and C. H. Sp6ck to O. S. Jackson, sections 1 and 2, block 5, Mahoe, and sections 26 and 28, block 4, Ngatirimu, approved; C. Matthews to C. and H. D. Gedge, section 18, block 3, Omona, approved; P. Stoffel to A. H. and E. J. Francis, sections 18, 19, 23, 25 and 54a, block 11, Ngaere, approved; L. H. Knuckey to W. H. Dowden and M. Walsh, section 43, block 11, Ngaere, approved. Question of Improvements.—Mr J. B. Roy waited on the board with regard to the notice given to H. T. Joll to show cause why his interest in section 15, block 8, and section 31, block 9, Mimi, should not be forfeited for not having effected the necessary improvements: Resolved, that upon a sworn declaration being made by Mr Joll showing that the requirements have been complied with, the board withdraw the notice of forfeiture. —L. Nairn and S. Lord waited on the board with reference to the forfeiture of section 4, block 15, Omona, for nonimprovement. They explained that they understood the improvements on section 5 adjoining held by their wives were sufficient:. Upon them giving an undertaking to effect the required improvements within twelve months, it was resolved to rescind the former resolution of forfeiture and grant the twelve months' of time to effect the impfoviements.—The Commissioner submitted reports from the ranger upon tne occupation of section 15, block 12, Mapara, by T. A. I. Lee, and section 11, block 11, Mapara, by D. J. T. Creech: Resojyed t.b§t th? interest of Mr Lee be forfeited, and tbst the interest of Mr Creech be forfeited in the event of his not having effected any appreciable improvements. W. Thomson, section 25, block 14, Ohura, deficient improvements, six months' extension; R. F. Roth, section 5, block 15, Ohura; non-residence, if not resident in six months the section will be forfeited; A. C. Perfect, section 10, block 10, Ohura, deficient improvements, six months' extension; H. Ryan, section 13, block 13, Ohura, deficient improvements, six months' extension; G. A. Adlam, section 5, block 11, Cape, deficient improvements, explanation satisfactory. Correspondence with regard to section 3, block 15, and section 2, block 16, Ohura, held by J. and R. Morris, who are not complying with the conditions of personal residence 'was submitted: Consideration deferred. —F. A. Harrison applied for a re-hearing of the forfeiture of section 20, block 5, Ohura. He waited on the board in support of the application : The board saw no reason to alter its former decision. Accrued "Thirds."—The proposals of the following local bodies for expenditure of accrued "thirds" were adopted, subject to the rangers' reports: —Eltham County Council, £1270 3s Bd, Tataraimaka Road Board, £26 4s 9d; Waiwakaiho Road Board, £l2 3s 4d; Oakura Road Board, £44 17s 4d. The Freehold. —The following applied to convert their O.R.P. licenses to freehold: —W. T. Hodge, 9, block 14, Pouatu; F. E. H. King, section 1, block 8, Omona; S. W. King, section 4, block 7, Omona; W. H. H. King, section 9, block 11, Omona: Resolved that the applications be agreed to. — The following gave notice of intention to convert leases in perpetuity to freehold : - L. R. Barnett, section 2, block 9, Aria; Albert Barnett, section 1, block 13, Aria: It was resolved that E. Tolme (ranger) be appointed appraiser for the purpose of valuing the land. Miscellaneous. —The Commissioner submitted memorandum of transfer C. Hodgkinson to Messrs W. J. and F. W. Simpson showing increase in amount of consideration since transfer was before the board: agreed to. —Messrs Malone, Anderson and Johnstone applied for extension of time to register sub-lease of section 4, block 2, Pouata, J. O'Donovan to W. A. Cleaver, resolved that one month's extension be granted.--J. Murray applied for a lease of sections 3 and 4, Upper Waitara, together with the land adjoining: Resolved that the report of the ranger be obtained. —Applications for lease of section 8, town of Whangamomona, were received from F. Calgher and W. Abbott: Resolved that the offer of F. Calgher of £2 per annum for a year to year tenancy be accepted subject to termination by three months' notice in the event ol the land being required for public purposes. —The secretary of the Ohura branch of the New Zealand Farmres' Union asked for assistance in obtaining section 3, Mangaroa suburban, as a site for saleyards: Resolved that the section be offered for sale by public auction upon the first opportunity, provided survey has been made. —The Commissioner referred to the state of section §O, block 11, Qpunake, the licensee of which was at present an inmate of a mental hospital in Sydney: Resolved that the section be declared forfeited for non-payment of rent. —T. H. Robinson wrote stating reasons why, in his opinion, his interest in section 8, block 11, Mapara, should not have been forfeited: Previous decision adhered to. —R. G. Brookes' application for a year to year tenancy of section 29, block 15, Aria, was deferred for further inquiry.—The report of H. T. Twiss,

Crown lands ranger, on sections in the town of Whangamomona was adopted, and the sections will be offered for sale by public auction for cash.—The board postponed till next meeting its consideration of the report of the ranger on improvements on sections 6 and 7, block 11, Pouatu, held by J. C. Harre. —The Whangamomona County Council wrote with reference to acquiring sections 43 and 46, Huiakama Village, as a site for a public pound: The Government will be recommended to dispose of the land to the council for the purpose stated under section 140 of the Land Act, 1908, at a price of £25 for the land and £IOO for the house. —-T. Aston wrote that the area taken from section 21, block 12, Mapara, would deprive him of the only building site on the holding, and also the water supply: The Commissioner's proposals for dealing with the matter was approved.—W. H. Sproull asked if he would be allowed to effect all required improvements for section 2, block 8. Omona, on the adjoining section 1, block 12, Omona, and, if he applied to transfer, whether the improvements must be effected: The board decided to adhere to its previous decision. —E. Tolme ranger, reported on the inspection of forty holdings comprising an area of 21, 13S acres, requirements £14,635, improvements effected £23,701; six were not resident, and ten bad not effected suffici - ent improvements: Notice will be sent to selectors who have not complied. —Plans of deviation of Mangapaka road, on section 2, block 13, Pouatu, and of Ohura road deviation in section 2, block 13, Ohura, were laid on the table: Resolved that the titles be amended accordingly.—W. Copeland applied for exemption from rent of section, 1 block 13, Mapara, and section 5, block 16, Opaku, on account of severe losses: Resolved that in the circumstances one year's rent be remitted. —The question of the mode of disposal of certain of the forfeited sections in the western portion of the Mapara Improved Farm Settlement, Totoro survey district, was discussed, with the report of the ranger: Decided that the sections be opened under ordinary conditions in groups of two where possible.— With regard to sections in Mapara and Tangitu Improved Farm Settlements that had been forfeited and re-allotted, it was resolved that if the persons who had selected them are .not on their sections by October 15th their interests will be forfeited. —J. Nicol applied for a portion of section 13, block 14, Ohura, to be added to his holding, owing to a road cutting having deprived him of his access to the best portion of the farm, which is at the back: Resolved that if within six months he will have the survey completed and plan lodged with the chief surveyor and approved, the board will approve of the selection of the land by him at a valuation of not less than £1 per acre.

Eggs at average prices are amongst the cheapest and most nutritious articles of diet. Like milk, an egg is complete food in itself containing everything that is necessary for the development of a perfect animal. It is also easily digested, if not damaged in cooking.
