-The Hunt— Wednesday morning last broke fine and was what could be termed an ideal hunting day. From early morning equestrians could be seen wending their way Pirongia wards, mounled on the best cattle that the country could produce. As evidencing the interest and enthusiasm sportsmen were present from far and near—from Ohaupo, Whatawhata, Harapepe, Karamea, Te Awamutu. and Cambridge. Fully three hundred joined in the hunt, whilst a number of ladies and others, viewed the course of the hounds from neighbouring hilltops. The first hare was sighted on W. J. Mackay's farm, and then followed a chase of ten miles over hill and dale. Puss made the pace merry, and ran through the farms of Messrs Glover, Rhodes, and Chris Mackay. From here the quarry doubled back, evading the hounds and through the same properties again, and back to the starting point. By this time so merry had the pace been thnt but few horsemen were anywhere handy to the hounds. The hounds killed in the vicinity of the race course, after a good long run of over ten miles. Sportsmen adjourned to the homestead of Mr F. McGovem, where the Pirongia Committee bad provided refreshments for all and sundry. The verdict of all and of the most experienced sportsmen was "the best run on record." It would ! take a newspaper in itself to record the names of the equestrians who followed the hunt
