WOOL SALES.

Messrs Dalgety and Co. received the following cable from their Adelaide office on Tuesday last:— Wool sales opened active; competition brisk; buying is general from ail quarters; 36, 000 bales offered, 34,250 scid. There is a strong demand for wools of medium quality, and a Jd higher for wcols :n general, than last sale, j'.rrericans are buying freely at prices on an average of a penny to twopence higher for wools in general than last sale. -We offered 4,700 bales and sold 4,500. The following is ffrom their London office:— The list of arrivals is closed, and all your wcols have arrived in time; 4l",500 bales were forwarded direct to manufacturers at home and abroad. Private sahs since of last 'series 1000 ; .ba;e?; new arrival 182,000 bales; 177,000 bales are left available for sale. Shipment of wool ;by sailing vessel from New Zealand is. being discouraged by the fact that the insurance Companies have again raised the tariff on that class of ship. Last year the risk was raised from to 3-Os per cent, range to one of 40s to oOs percent. This year the companies have made the range from 50s to over 100s, the risk commencing fr:;rn the sheep's back. Mr G. H. Scales, shipping agent of Wellington, has made arrangements to ship wool in future by the Clan line of steamers. At the rata of 84s per cent, insurance works out at go per lb,or Is per bale. A concession of Id per lb in wool freight will be made during the ensuing season by the other four steamship companies, and so the charges will be at 7-lGd per lb for greasy wool and sheepskins, and 9-1 Cd per lb for slipe and washed wool, plus ten per cent, primage in both instances.
