There were 11.5 degrees of frost registered in Kaikoura this morning. A special meeting of the Kaikoura branch of the Women’s Jn v titute will be hold in St. Paul’s Hall to-morrow (Tuesday). The annual general meeting of the Kakiouin Trotting Club will be held in the Band Room to-morow (Tuesday) night. A eoiU'eri in aid of the Hanson Relief Fund Mill be held in the Drill Hail on Wednesday evening. The programme is advertised. A dance will be held in the Hapuku Hall on Saturday, July 14, under the supervision of the Mangamaumi subcommittee of the N.Z. Legion. A public meeting will be- hold in the Public Library to-morrow (Tuesday) night, to make arrangements for a public farewell: to Mr and Airs James Murray. The. Bank of New South Wales and the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney announce that the maximum rate of interest on overdrafts shall be 5 per cent, as from July 1 next. A variety stall will be held at the West End on Saturday next, under the supervision,of the Women’s Divison of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union, in aid of funds for the relief of distress. Gifts of any kind may- he left at the Star Oilice.' The home of Mr and Mrs I. McGregor, of Greenburn, 20 miles from Kaikoura, on the AVaiau road, was destroyed by lire at about one o’clock on Sunday morning, together with contents. The house contained eight rooms and was insured in the State Office, hut the particulars arc not available. The family wore in Kaikoura for the weekend and were unaware of the lire. There was a very large attendance at the Suburban Halt on Saturday night, at the dance, supervised by Ibo Alangamaunu School Committee in aid of funds for the school and dental clinic. A most enjoyable time was spent by all present. Music was supplied by Mr AV. Thomas and extras were played by Misses K. Smith, V. Boyd and E. Wareham. Mr IT. Yaxley acted as AI.C. The luckv door ticket (44) was won by Mr Thomas. An excellent supper was provided and dancing continued until midnight.
