HOCKEY.
KAIKOURA 2 v. WAI AU I. Keen interest was displayed in the ladies’ hockey match, which took placi on the Show Ground on Saturday afternoon. The local ladies were the superior all through, lint they were inclined i-. give too many “sticks,” ami wore often penalissed for “obstruction” ami beat ing the ball from the corner hit. Esther Smith, V. Chapman, F. Gregory, ami B. Low 7 played well for Kaikoura. For Waiau Miss M. O’Malley was the outstanding player, and shows great promise. Esther Smith scored two goals for Kaikoura, and C. Thompson scored for Waiau. Mr Al. Alackle was referee. The girls were given afternoon tea at the Kaikoura tennis courts, and in the evening were entertained at a dance held at the Drill Hall.
