FOOTBALL.
The final match in the local Banner competition was played on Saturday, when Spotswood met Mackenzie, on the Domett ground, in fine weather. A good deal of interest was taken in the match, ami there was a good attendance of spectators, who were rewarded by witnessing one of the keenest games play cd since the start of the local competitions. Both teams fielded full strength, with the exception that Spotswood was without the services of Stronach. Tinhalf time .eon's were Mackenzie (>, tries by Bruce Smith and Fairbrother, Spotswood nil. In the second half C. Barnes scor('<l a try, and converted for Spotswood, the final score b.eing Afackenzie 6, Spotswood 5. Air F. D. Childs controlled the game. Afackenzie become the holders of the local banner for the ensuing year. NEXT SATURDAY’S MATCH. On Saturday next the Cheviot senior team, winners of the Hurunui SubUnion competition, will meet the Tua hiwi team, winners of the North Canterbury competition, in a match foi possession of the Shield donated by Air Angus Cameron. The following will represent Cheviot:—Kerr, Barnes, Fair brohter Flaherty, Gray. Stronach, Winskill. Afeikle, Upritchard, Petrie, Sloss, C. Denton. A. Barnes, Kelly, Orchard, Emergency. E. Wilkinson.
