White butterflies are becoming very prevalent in Wellington. One after noon last week two boys, using tennis rackets to bit down the butterflies, killed 165 in the vegetab'e plot conduced under the No. 5 Scheme in Russell terrace. The beys were under the impression that a bounty of 5s a hundred is paid for the capture of white butterflies, and although this is not the case the man in charge of the plot did pot disillusion the lads, f>r the butterflies do much damage by eating out the hearts of cabbages.

Entries for Inangahua A. & P Association’s annual show close to morrow. Already a very la g - number have be n received, and it is expected that when the list closes to morrow night a record entry will have been rec ived. Considerable support is being received from the country districts, and the entries received from outside Reefton are much greater than last year. This year’s show gives every promise of bt mg a great success. The funeral of the late Richard V. C. Sewell took place thi3 afternoon, when there was an immense attendance, particularly of his workmates from Waiuta, the Black water battery and mine were closed for the day, as well as local mourners, those attending filling 26 motor-cars as well as a large number being on foot, including the members of the Pacific Lodge of Freemasons and the T.oyal Reefton Lodge of Oddfellows, both of which the deceased was a member. The Rev. W, B*U preached a short funeral service :»r St: Stephen’s Ct u-ch and read the prayers at the graveside in the Suburban Cemetery, and P. M. Bro. P. C. Mori read the Masonic service and N. G. Bro. N. Clark the Oddfellows service. .c-

Tha necessity of keeping Reefton on the map in regard to sports gatherings ie apparent to everyone, as well as the advantages that secure to the place through the influx of visitors on such an occasion, so those that benefit from these excursions into the town should be there in full force to support it The benefit of a sports meeting to our growing athletes cannot be over-estim-ated, giving them, as it does, an opportunity of measuring their pace against trained athletes from other centres, and we are confident that these will welcome such a gathering. We hope, therefore to see a representative assembly of all those who favour the holding of a sports meeting to-night.
