BREAMER'S ROYAL LYCEUM PICTURES.

The Grey River Argus- speak* ng of the piciuie which Mr {reamer i« exbDiiine- in the new fheatie Royal to-night says:— -iis star picture is " T he Vesta!," )emgone of the great religious iramas of modern times. Cinna, :hief of the Great Roman Legions akes farewell to his devoted iweetheart, Qn the eve of his jepartare for Gaul, where he is joing forth to make new con* luests, for his agust master the imperor, Cinna arid Julia are ibout to part but duty calls and he oniy jealous spectator of the Mrting is the High Priest of /esta who determines to thwart 3inna. With this ohjectinview ie sends to Rome the false hews )f Cinna's death which is of :our?e believed coming from such a great di gnitary. All Rome is distiacted and plunged into nourning. Julia, on receiving the sad news, becomes well nigh distracted and resolves to consecrete herself to the service of Vesta and amid the gorgeous ritual common to all ancient religious ceremonials takes the habit. Cinna in a short but stubbornly contested war with the Gauls adds more land to the Empire and returns victorious and the rites of this particular religion order to be crowned with the'laurel by the last vestal which in this particular case is Cinna's sweetheart. Julia who at once m liftingjher veil, recognises her lover. Cinna also recognises his betrothed and with broken heart hies himself to the abode of his faithful friend, Marcus, who conspires with him so break into the sacred temple it n.idnight. They reach the emple and having forced admit* tance proceed to the sacred fire of Vesta who is tended by the last ' vestal There they discover the Driest in the act of embracing Julia. The priest is at once flung to the ground but the noise has disturbed the whole temple and Cinna and .Marcus make pood their escape during the general Qommotion and excite* ment. Th« Hi oh Priest in explaining niukws Julia the culprit. For having left the sacred fire of Vesta she is condemned to be buried alive in the cursed field. Cinna, Marcus, and their followers hearing of this lay in wait for the High Priest, and his hordes. On their arrival at the tomb a .sharp fight takes place and Julia is res* cued and restored to her lover. The High Priest pursues, but is killed by Marcus. The effects in this picture ar* most elaborate particularly the lighting effects which depict the soft interior light of the temple as against the.; exterior, showing up the old Roman architecture to great.'" advantage. The midnight scene at the temple in which there is a moonlight effert is simply unparalled in cinematography. The picture must be seen to be be« lieved, as a matter of fact has never been excelled in New Zea» land, tt is most seldom that a picture proprietor has the good fortune to be able to present to his patrons such a magnificent picture and to be able to supplement it with another star picture just as good though treating of a historical rather than mythical subject is a happy occurrence that only happens very seldom.
