Mining Intelligence

[From oue Misjnq RkporterJ CUMBM&AND. The mine manasr reports for the week : The main dliye has been extended a further diitance of six feet ; the reef continues, ybut is rather broken and undefined, bujfthe veins of quartz running through &• contain fair gold, and justifies^ the wSatinuation of driving when I have ww& inore necessary work. Have staract; a 1 drive at the north ehfl" of the y/^fen JMBflMftu Iffl ft tfl get at a block of ffSt feef, lvhicH 1 could not get out' ra| advantage without ; have driven-piere 10 feet, and have 40. feet farther to go yet. Ana also driving a crpgs-cut to the west -about 50 feet soutl^of the main drive ; there is a large Quantity of water coming put of the tface, but whether from a reef or broKen and open strata in the country renjains to bo proved. The leading stope|4O feet back from the face of the msin drive is opening out to a nice face of stone and carrying very good gold 1 ; am of opinion that it will improve going up. The stopes at the east end are* looking well, there being about Bft 6in of stone and of good quality. Afrj.soon as the above drive is in to enable me to rise to the stone, I think I 'shall be in a position to keep the cartg&jgoing for some time. The contractors ftfrthe low level tunnel have driven a Mrther distance of 83 feet, total distance driven 257 feet, leaving 93 feet to be driven to complete their contract ; there is a very nice track of a reef in the face, and occasionally boulders of very good lookiug quartz 4s met with. The stone is similar in character to that at the east end of the main level above, and there is a large quantity of water corning out of the face of the drive, which may be considered a strong indication of the near approach to a reef. The carter has taken 65 tons from the mine, and there are about 120 tons at the Drake and machine paddocks. A 1. The mine manager came into town last evening and reported striking the solid leader formerly worked by Dan O'Connell. The track of the leader has been driven/ on continuously, but lately the stone has been very broken ; the leader novjfiftruck is of the same wonderful richness as that formerly worked by the tributer. EISE AND SHINE. The propriety's of this claim report that the <lrive:j|ias been extended a total distance offi|feet to date, and that the countrjßpjpiresen being driven through is elaW and pug mixed. A fresh contract f&an additional 50 feet of driving has ran let. FIdB^CBOSS. The mine reports: The progress of wcJgiin the mine during the week is Jpfollows— 60 feet of stoping have bjEn done in the faces, the reef averaging Bft 6in, and in Nos. 7 and 8 faces nbrth of the winze showing very fairlgold; in No. 8 stope above the souJßf&termediate level the reef is four feejPfltle and carries very fair gold. Jugkpect better returns from the to£ ppies next week. The shaft has beenfeunk a further distance of 10 feet, totCdepth 50 feet, in good ground with martz leaders showing. . SIK CHAIILES RUSSELL. Messrs Butler and Sangster have paid a professional visit to this claim for the purpose ofiselecting a battery site and report as jollows : — -Water can be brought in capable of supplying a 80ft. overshot whdbl W*h 6ft breast, by a race 80 chain Imng, with a fall of Bft., Eind the whpj will fce sufficiently'

powerfull to drive 20-head of stampers; The site chosen for the v battery will hold a commanding position, and enable the Company to undertake .crushing for all claims in that parts, of the district. An aerial tramway 80 chains Uns will \Se rtiquiftitL to connect tne mine with the batteiy. The flat below the battery site will form a firstclass tailing site of about three acres. The cost of battery, tramway and race may beroughfy eaieuiaied- at £2,100. SitmmmJmmmUJ^SmiimimmZm
