9 (kkom ouk owx cokkbspondknt. ) Auchxa.ni>, 7. The fignre-head of a large vessel has been found on the West Coast beach 60 miles from Wanganui aud 50 miles from Cape Maria lighthouse. On the 29th ult.. while proceeding from North Cape to Wanganui, Constable Moir found a figure head apparently that of a large vessel, washed ashore and lying at high water mark. He states that on the previous Monday the 26th ult. , he rode 40 miles along the beach' and saw nothing of it at that time, he therefore thinks that it had been washed ashore on the morning it was found. The figure-head is what is known as the riddle head design. The portion found is about sft. 6in. long, by about 2 inches iv width. The most remarkable thing is that where the figure-head had been broken away from tte stem of the vessel to which it belongs the wood appears to be clear, as if the break had only taken place a week ago, Constable Moir rolled tho figure-head from, off the beach on to the grass clear of all danger by sea. He thinks the weight will be from 150 to 200!bs; there is no doubt this h&s belonged to some illfated vessel, Tauranga, 7 Fox and Glover are conducting meetings here on behalf of the New Zealand Temperance Alliance.
