BONUS FOX GOLD-SAVING APPARATUS. rnHK Provincial Council of Otago being JL deairous of stimulating invention, toil securing <ho use o( gold oaving apparatus in coiiueolioii with hydraulic mining adapted to th« purpose of extracting gold from auriferous earth more completely than any of the machines or methods at present in use, has voted the emu of £250, to be offered as a bonus for tho invention of such an apparatus, subjeot to such competition and regulations as bis Honor the Superintendent may seem fit. Notico is hereby given iv accordance with the vote of the Council, that plans and proposals for suoh an apparatus will be leceivod for consideration, up till the first duy of August nest ensuing. The following particulars are published for tho information of intended eiaibitor* of plans. The plans and proposals will be submitted to a body of judge*, composed of •xperi«nsed miners, aud iucb other persons as his llonor the Superintendent may appoint, and in considering them, the following points will be kept in rte*r ; — 1. The cost of the appuratus as it appears «n the plan, and its probable cost and tear and wear. 2. The readiness with which it can be secured in any part of a tail race, and be removed from one part to another aud again secured. 8. Its adaptability to the different widths uid fulls of tail races uaed in different districts ; to the varying quantities of water used either by choice or necessity for flushing the same ; itnd to the different kinds of washdirt from which gold is obtained in the Province. Inventors are expected to be conversant with the machines and methods at -present in use, and not to offer Biraple reproductions of the same. They are also expected not to offer reproductions of machines or methods which have fallen into disuse. They can obtain practical information on these and other points, by application through the post to the Central Mining Association at N use by. If, in the opinion of the judges appointed any plan shall appear to be worthy of adoption by the miners in the Province, the Government undertakes to lurnish copies of j the eamo to each of the Mining Associations I in the Province with full instructions as to inventions of the inventors, and the payment of the bonus will then be determined in the following manner, payment being due within ; eight months from the date at *hieh tho j copies Of the plans and instructions havo been issued to the various Mining Associations. In the event of two or more plans bring considered worthy of trial, the Government will determine in what manner the competition shall be cawed on, aud the best pkn discovered. As the bonus is only intended to ttimulate inventive genius, every inventor u>aj reuy a further benefit from his invention ii he tliink fit, by taking out a patent.
