INSPECTION MADE
PAEROA LAWN CEMETERY FAVOURABLE IMPRESSION OFFICER FROM WELLINGTON Favourable comments were made about the condition of the Paeroa Servicemen’s Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday morning when it was inspected by Mr G. H. Weir, officer in charge of the War Graves Division of the Department of Internal Affairs, and Mr F. I. Anderson, resident architect, Ministry of Works, Hamilton, together with local representatives from the Paeroa and Hauraki Returned Services Association, the Paeroa Borough Council and the Ohinemuri County Council.
Discussion on the cemetery was informal and concerned the general layout of the grounds. The suggestion was made that more low hedges
be planted along both sides of the cemetery together with ornamental shrubs at the rear to form a more pleasant background. Mr Weir seemed very favourably impressed with the work and said that he often quoted the layout and appearance of the Paeroa Servicemen’s Lawn Cemetery to other associations as an example of what could be done with servicemen’s graves. . Mr A. A. Jenkinson, clerk to the Ohinemuri County Council, indicated that assistance would be given by his council in the new work, maintenance and general upkeep of the area concerned. Other representatives present were: Messrs F. T. Gregson, vice-president, J. M. Craig, past secretary, and N. S. Barrott, secretary of the Paeroa and Hauraki Returned Services Association, and Mr N. C. Davies, representing the Paeroa Borough Council.
