WHARFAGE RATE

WATER CARRIAGE TO HIKUTAIA

CARGO LANDED AT KAIMANAWA

At the April meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council a letter was received from the Auckland Water Transport Company regarding the use of the Kaimanawa wharf and the decision of the council to charge them Is per ton wharfage. “ All our freight rates-,” stated the letter, “to Paeroa, Hikutaia, Waihi and Te Aroha, etc., are based on the wharfage charge of 6d per ton and in view of your decision to make the charge Is per ton we will have to increase our rate to Hikutaia to cover the increase. We suggest that up to March 31, 1948, we pay you the 6d per ton on all cargo landed on the Kaimanawa wharf and that we make no charge of commission for collecting and as from April 1, 1948, the rates of

wharfage and commission as set out in your letter, will apply.” It was consequently moved by Cr. H. R. Morrison and seconded by Cr. J. A. Ldwry that the offer be accepted.
