COROMANDEL BEATEN, 6—5 RUGBY PLAYED AT WEEK-END The end of the second round of the Coromandel senior Rugby championship saw Kennedy’s Bay defeat Coromandel by six points to five and continue their unbeaten record for the season. The weather wa's boisterous and wet and the standard of play of both teams was not high. The Bay, playing with a high wind, was lucky to keep Coromandel from scoring in the first half and it was not until a minute or two before the change-over that Williams opened the score for the Bay with a try which was unconverted.

Kennedy’s Bay 3, Coromandel nil After the interval the Bay rallied but Coromandel was securing from the set scrums and was several times within an ace of scoring. The Bay fought back and from a penalty G. Thwaites kicked a neat goal. Kennedy’s Bay 6, Coromandel nil Coromandel again pressed and a nice solo effort by R. Pepper ended in a try under the posts. Denize easily converted it.

Kennedy’s Bay 6, Coromandel 5 With only one point between them both teams tried hard but there was no further score in the game. Mr R. Morgan was the referee.

For Coromandel R. Pepper was outstanding in the forwards while K. Leggane and Quist were the best of the backs. Maruroa and G. Thwaites were prominent in the Bay forwards while McKeddie made no mistakes as custodian;.. B- Hale' at half played well-
