TO JOIN R.A.F.
F/O SINCLAIR OF COROMANDEL
LENGTHY WAR SERVICE Flying Officer T. Sinclair, D.F.C., R.N.Z.A.F., who for some time past has been a resident of Coromandel, is leaving in a few days on his journey to England where he has been chosen to be a pilot in the new draft of the R.A.F. He will sail with his wife and child, after a visit to his parents in Gisborne. His mother was a Miss Pitkethley whose former home was in Coromandel.
Flying Officer Sinclair joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1939 and, after a course of training, and then instructing, in New Zealand air fields, was drafted to Britain. For I'B months he was an. instructor in British bases. Drafted to fighter patrols in flights over Britain, he gained distinction. From the Fighter Squadron to bombers was the next step, and he commanded one of the Mosquitoes that made history in bombing many parts of Germany and German-occupied France. From this service he returned with honours to this country in December, 1945. Now he goes back to England as a pilot-instructoi’ on a four years’ contract, and his many friends will wish him bon voyage in his new adventure abroad.
