POWER SUPPLY
BOARD MANAGER’S STATEMENT ECONOMY WILL PREVENT CUTS Although the scheduled restrictions on the supply of electric power in the Thames Valley Electric Power Board’s area at present Was only between 6.30 p.m. and 7 < p.m., the, board had budgeted a cut from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday nights, and also from 1.30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the afternoons of both Saturday and Sunday if the extent of consumption required it, -Mr R. Sprague, the manager of the board, told a Gazette representative yesterday. After the announcement in the ' papers of last Saturday that the hydro-electric generating position had improved, Mr Sprague said, the consumption in the board’s .area. rose considerably- The result was a cut-off on Sunday afternoon to balance it, Mr Sprague said. However, he continued, with the co-operation of the consumer, and
if there was an effort at staggering the hours of cooking, the present allocation to the Thames Valley Power Board would put it in a much better position than it had been over the past few months. Mr Sprague pointed out that "whereas in the city short cuts at the peak periods could be made, in the area supplied by the Thames Valley Electric Power Board, power was essential to farmers who were still milking, and similar cuts could not be made. The position was aggravated because at an earlier period last year the majority of farmers had.finished milking, and the allocation of power was made from the past consumption, not from present demands.
