WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
WHAREPOA’S JUNE MEETING RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS Mrs T. Bax presided over the June meeting of the Wharepoa Women’s Institute in the Wharepoa Hall. There was a good attendance of members. Apologies were received from several absent members. Mrs Pinnock’s monthly letter to institutes was readAmong, the correspondence was a letter from the Thames Institute congratulating Wharepoa on its success at the recent drama festival, when it won the section for group items. The points competition for the day was the best decorated jam tart. The winners were Mrs T. Bax 1, Mrs Kelson 2, Mrs J. Bax 3. The best bloom competition was won by Mrs Kelson with a fine head of pink stock. The wall competition was won by Mrs J. Bax.
An enjoyable travel talk on a visit to the South Island was given by Mrs E. Bax, who has recently returned from a holiday there. Mrs Bax also read an interesting article on “ How the Institute Movement Started.” Birthday sprays were presented by the president to the following members: Mesdames C. Orr, L. McCollum, Kelson, T. Murdock. The hostesses for the day were Mesdames E. Bax and C. Orr.
