“OLD TRADITION”

NAME OF THE ELECTORATE THAMES COUNTY PROTEST The retention of the name of Thames for the new electorate was advocated by Cr. E. J. McLoughlin at the April meeting of the Thames County Council. “There is only a small part of Hauraki in the electorate,” said Cr. McLoughlin. “Thames has had some of the best representatives in Wellington since the early days;” Cr. McLoughlin was warmly supported by Cr. G. Henwood. “*1 think there are a lot of old traditions wrapped up in the name of Thames,” said the chairman, Cr. D. Courtney. “It should be perpetuated.” The county clerk, Mr J. F. Eames, was requested to protest against the change to the appropriate authorities.
