IN THE J FORCE

KEREPEEHI FAREWELL PRESENTATIONS MADE THREE SOLDIERS HONOURED There was a good attendance at a farewell held in the Kerepeehi Hall on Wednesday, April 24, in honour of Ptes. D. Hayes, O. .Dennison and M. Shilton who are shortly leaving to serve in the J Force in Japan.

Music was supplied by the Kerepeehi Rhythm Ramblers and an extra played by Mr J. McGowan. Mr W. Bailey acted as M.C.. The monte carlos were won by’ Misses P. Jordan and B. Dennison, Miss N. Hayes and Mr N. Bailey. Cards were won by Mrs Patterson and Mr M. Pearce.

In wishing the boys farewell, Mr P. G. Pearce said that he was priviledged to say au revoir to these boys who were leaving to represent New Zealand in the J Force.in Japan. He stated that he hoped their stay would not be too .long and wished them the best of luck. accept a cheque on behalf of the residents as a token of their esteem. In reply Pte. Hayes thanked Mr Pearce for his remarks and the presentation and stated that he was pleased to see so many present at . the evening. He thanked everyone for coming along and making it such a success.

‘Ptes. Dennison and Shilton endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks and thanked Mr Pearce for the presentation.
