ANNUAL MEETING HELD ELECTION OF OFFICERS BALLS FOR PRESENT SEASON The annual meeting of the Hikutaia Tennis Club took place on Saturday afternoon, November G at the club pavilion. The president, Mr .M. Morrison, presided over a fair attendance of members. It was again left in the hands of the president and secretary to decide if teams could possibly be entered in inter-club competitions. The question of procuring balls if possible, was to be investigated by the same officials. The delegate to the Park Executive, Mr Mai. Morrison, was instructed to bring £o their notice the need for repairs to the surface of the tennis courts, also to inform them that tennis members did not consider 'afternoon tea was necessary for them under the existing’ circumstances. The following motion was placed on record and the secretary, Mr G. Alley was requested to convey it to his family on behalf of the meeting: “That this annual meeting wishes to extend to Mrs P. I consulted Mr Adams and Mr Bradford yesterday and both agree that this would make a vast improvement on both sides of the canal, but I am compelled to say that both voiced their opinions tthat any excessive draw to this area might prejudice the supply further on. “I personally; am of the opinion and Mr Bradford agrees, that alteration of the system of supply to the Waitakaruru Cheese Factory will counterbalance this extra- draw if any, and arrangements have been made to confer with the factory manager and the cheese supervisor. lam confident that things can be adjusted to the satisfaction of everybody. “ The cost of extending the 4in. main for 5000 ft. will be £630 plus laying and there are no other factors to prohibit the work. As a set-off, there will be the reclamation of 4000 ft. of 2iin. galvanised pipe, and lODO ft. of 2in. which can be bought and utilised elsewhere. I estimate the nett cost of the improvement to be about £450 but this will yary according to the condition of the reclaimed pipes. After lengthy discussion by the council regarding ways and means as well as the question of the water available the above decision was reached. It was decided that the pumps at present serving the Kerepeehi block be kept in order as an additional stand-by. An amendment that no action be taken until the Koterepoupouai stream was available to be linked up was moved by Mr W. E. Hale and seconded by Mr C. W. Schultz but was defeated.
