OBITUARY

MRS AGNES MARY SLYFIELD LONG LIFE OB' SERVICE INTEREST IN MISSIONARY WORK The death occurred on the morning of June 29, of Mrs -Agnes Mary Slyfield. wife of Mr E. V. Slyfield of Paeroa. Mrs Slyfield who was toe eldest daughter of the lat.e Mr and Mrs Angus Cameron Campbell was born at Thames 99 years ago and at six years of age went to live in Parneu, Auckland, where her life was spent until her marriage in 1901 when she went to live in Wellington where Mr Slyfield was employed. In 1908 the family, which now included a son of six years, removed to Dunedin and remained there until 1920 when a change wa- made to the North Island.

After two years’ residence in Taihape, Mr and Mrs Slyfield came to Paeroa with their three children. DurI ing the past 20 years Mrs Slyfield has ■ exercised an intense and growing in- ' ierest in missionary causes and this ' no doubt, inspired her -.rider daughter to volunteer for service as a foieign missionary. j For fifteen years past Mrs Slyfield has held the office of prtrident of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Women s Missionary Union and a like number of years has been president of the Paeroach branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society. In 1932 and 1933 presidency of the Paeroa Womens Institute was another responsibility that fell to her lot. Some seven years ago a serious illness befell her and the resul ing con- | uition of health reduced her activity

but not her interest in all good causes. Mrs Slyfield is survived by her husband, one son,' Mr Kenneth Slyfield of Auckland, and two daughters, Mrs E. Rowland Hairies, Sudan and Mrs J. J. Craig, Dunedin. There is one grandchild. David Evan Harries. The interment took place at. Hillsborough Cemetery, Auckland, and was largely attended, the many beautiful floral emblems sent by organisations and friends showed the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Rev. J. L. Gray officiated. OLD IDENTITY MRS FRANCIS E. LE MANQUAIS The death occurred in Auckland last Saturday of an old identity of Paeroa Mrs Francis Edith Le Manquais. aged 70 years. The late Mrs Le Manquais was the wife of the la e Mr Frederick F. R. La- Manquais who for many years i was one of the partners in the Paeroa firm of Le Manquais, Lamb and Co., Ltd. After spending some 49-odd years in Paeroa .he late Mrs Le Manquais moved to Auckland after the death of her husband. The is survived by one daughter, Mrs R. V. Lambtr , of Auckli-nd.
