LIQUOR NEAR A DANCE
INCIDENT IN PAEROA
RENEWING ACQUAINTANCES
Charged with being in possession of liquor in the vicinity of the Civic Hall, Paeroa, on March 15 during the progress of a dance, Francis E. Olney of Morrinsville, was convicted and fined £2 court costs 10s in the Paeroa Court on Monday by Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M.
Accused did not appeal’ but wiote stating that he had been unable to procure leave from work to attend.
The letter added that Paeroa was close to his home town and while attending a dance in Paeroa he met some old school mates whom he had not seen for over two years and they invited him out to have a drink and renew acquaintances and under the circumstances he could not very well
refuse. After a while, the letter continued, they had left the dance and proceeded to where the others had a bottle of liquor and. it was handed to accused to open. At that time the police intervened and of course the liquoi in his possession. ■ In conclusion accused wrote tha he realised the foolish mistake he had made to accept the invitation and assured the court that it would never occur again.
A penalty as stated above was imposed.
