POULTRYMEN

MEETING OF THE DISTRICT COUNCIL INCREASE IN BRANCH MEMBERS. The final meeting of the Hauraki District Council of the New Zealand Poultry Producers’ Federation for the year was held at Paeroa last week-end, there being a full attendance of branch delegates. Reports submitted showed a gratifying increase in the membership of the majority of the branches, and members present expressed appreciation of the Poultry Board’s action in contributing towards the expenses of delegates attending meetings of the council. The Thames branch reported having had a visit from the Government poultry inspector, Mr Jarrett, who had given those present an interesting and instructive address on various aspects of the industry. The secretary, Mr K. A. Powell, in the course of his report, stated that while unfavourable weather conditions had been experienced during the breeding season the position was now improving ,and the young birds were coming along nicely. During the year branches of the federation had been formed at Waihi, Thames, Paeroa and Te Aroha, and were doing good work in the interests of that body, the objects of'which were as follows: (1) To organise, develop and promote the interests of the poultry in general, and to foster a spirit of co-operation amongst all persons engaged in the industry in the Dominion; (2) to maintain a channel through which all poultry keepers may take part in the administration and control of the industry; (3) to confer with the New Zealand Poultry Board and make such representations to the board and to the Government as may from time to time be deemed necessary; (4) to make and interpret rules and regulations for controlling and carrying out all or any of the objects of the federation.

After surprise had been expressed at the lack of interest on the part of some registered poultry-keepers in the affairs of the federation and their failure to accept the invitations to attend branch meetings, the report was adopted.
