HUNTLY RELIEF WORKERS

Stand-Down Week PROVISION SOUGHT A meeting, representative of the local bodies, was held in the Lyceum Theatre on Wednesday evening. The object was to formulate a scheme whereby provision would be made for the relief workers du ing stand-down week. Under the present arrangement. the workers receive neither work nor sustenance for the week. This is particularly hard on the women and children. Various plans were suggested and it was decided to ask each public body represented to make a special appeal to the Govern ment to provide work or sustentance for each stand-down week or to abolish it. A representative committee was elected to deal with all matters relating to the situation. An urgent appeal is made to local residents and farmers to give work for the relief workers for each fourth week as it occurs The week ending August 13th is the immediate need. At the meeting of the newlyelected committee held immediately after the general meeting, the Rev. Chas. J. Bush King, vicar, was elected chairman and Mr Roy Sheeran secretary. The committee is representative of the Borough Council, Miners’ District Council, the Churches and the relief workers. An urgent appeal is made to provide work for the men during the coining week, and applications for men may be made to His Worship, the Mayor, the ministers of the Presbyterian, Anglican or Methodist bodies.
