MISCHIEF CHARGE

MAN SETS FIRE TO CURTAINS. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) BLENHEIM, May 27. A queer story was related in court this morning of a half-blind tea hawfier, William Spence Jackson, who, after sharing two gallons of beer in a friend’s house, set fire to the window curtains when his host’s back was turned.

Robert O’Sullivan, the man who entertained Jackson, averted a serious blaze at the expense of burned hands, by tearing down the flaming material. Jackson was charged with mischief, and was ordered to reimburse O’Sullivan for the damage. Defendant offered no excuse or motive for his action.
