SECRET MARRIAGE
PRINCESS WEDDED TO PORTER SENSATION CAUSED IN ATHENS , (United Press Association —By; Electric Telegraph—Copyright). f (Received this day at 1.40 p.m.) - ' ATHENS, May 27. A sensation was caused by, the elopment and secret marriage of Princess ■Assa, eldest sister of the King of Iraq to a hotel porter. Desperate efforts by the family to annul the marriage were unsuccessful.
The Princess, who is 30 years of age, arrived at Athens a fortnight ago with her sister Rajihah. She was. V secretly baptised into the Greek Orthodox Church in the name of Annstassia., and then disappeared from the hotel. The Porter, Anastassios Charalembi, aged 25, vanished simultaneously. When the marriage was revealed, Princes s Rajihah called in the police, but they were powerless. Princess Assa in a statement said. “I will .not have anything to .do with my relations. I love my husband.” The . romance began at Rhodes two years ago.
