In view of the recent rise , of wool values, much interest is attached to the winter sales,:of crut’chiiigs, pieces and ■ oddments held to-day by Wellington wool broken?, this being the first auction since, the close of the roster. sales last April. < Seven catalogues were offered, and comprised 4000 bales, the. bulk of which were crutch mgs and pieces, there being about 800 bales of ileece wools. There was a- fairly representative bench of buyers, .amongst whom competition was free, .and at times very keen, all good lines meeting with spirited biddings. Continental buyers,' Australi n and local mills took the bulk of the best crutch-tags, for which there were ■excellent demands. It is understood there were some .good buying orders from Japan. Local (scourers and fellmongei's showed no hesitation in securing thejr require-., meats'. Passings were comparatively few, and over 90 per cent, of the total offerings were quitted at auction. The sale reflected the, recent general improvement in the market. Cru tchings sold generally at one penny to 2d higher than in April, while fleece 1 wools, which passed them at 3id to 3Jd, sold to-day at up to s’d. and iq some- enses a shade better. S'’r>«r cro-sbred crutehings sold up to 6kl, medium good to 5’ { d, and seedy,end inferior to 4cl. Crossbred pieces and bellies made 2ld to Ad. There was keen competition for small lines of fine wools. Two small lota of fcouthdowns made 12 \d and 12.}d remectively, and fine hnlfhreds went to 10} <l. Fine crogur ibrrd.s sold freelv tat 6ld to B.Vd, and medium crossbreds .at Sid to 6\dlambs’ wool also- went well, best sorbs nyking 9d to l2Jd, and mediums 6d to i6jd.
