PEDESTRIAN HURT

KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR MEMBER OF UNLUCKY FAMILY AUCKLAND, August 16. As the result of being knocked down by a motor-car .in Parnell Road, near the overhead railway bridge, shortly before nine o’clock last evening, Mr Arthur Hunter, aged 27 ,single, had his right leg fractured. Mr Hunter, who lives at 68 Belgium Street, City, said later that "the car did not stop after the accident. The matter was reported to’the police and detectives are investigating. Mr Hunter was knocked down shortly after alighting . from a tramcar. Before he could reach the curb the motor-car struck him, threw him into the gutter and disappeared. He was unable to read the registration number. Suffering considerable pain, Mr Hunter wag obliged ■; to lie where he had fallen and await: help. He shouted as lie saw the lights of an approaching taxi-cab and succeeded in attracting the driver’s attention.. The injured man was taken to the Auckland Hospital in the taxi-cab.

Both Mr Hunter’s'brothers and also his only sister have been injured as a result of street accidents. About seven years ago Mr L. Hunter was knocked from his motor-cpcle by a motor-car in Khy.ber Pass, and suffered a fractured leg. The motor-car did not stop, and it wpts not traced. Miss Beryl Hunter was knocked down by a motor-car some four years ago, after alighting from a train, car, and received head injuries, while more recently, the youngest member of tlie family, Trevor Hunter, aged 14, was knocked down and injured.
