Liners of the air, as luxurious as liners of the ocean, are now in course of construction in London. As, commodious inside as a Pullman car, and far •sairpassing .any passenger aeroplane, they will contain a smokingmom and a buffet.. Eight in number. tlie.se machines will form the fleet with which Imperial Airways will outdistance all competitors in the service to the Continent this summer. They are being built at Cricklewood by Messrs Handley Page Ltd. and the details oi construction are being kept secret. Each machine will carry forty passengers. who will enjoy amenities never before provided in the air. ’I he machines will lie ready in about eight weeks and will bo in operation" in three months. They are destined to cope with the tremendous increase in air travel from Croydon to Paris and will undoubtedly lie most popular ■ with women. Stainless steel and duralumin are the materials used in the construction oi Hie fuselages of the machines. Four engines will drive these giants of Hie skies at an average speed m 100 miles an hour. They will he },v far tho largest aircraft on any regular service in the world. The existing British machines of' the largesttype carry 22 passengers. Although smoking is permitted in eoriain allmetal liners, these will ho the first to have a special smoking-room.
