FOUND DEAD

GISBORNE, June 4
John Alexander McDonald, 74, was found dc-'U this morning front a gunshot wound in the head. He, was formerly a Gisborne Borough and Harbour engineer and ; prior to coming to Gisborne in 1913 had held important engineering posts in New South Whiles, West Australia and South Africa,
TWO MEN INJURED
STRATFORD, June 4
Turn young men, Gordon Irving and Walter Carman, are in the hospital as the result of falls on Aft. Egmont yesterday, .Irving lost his footing in helping one'of his party who sl.pped, and he slid over the rocks and ice for 400 feet. Carman lost his footing and rolled 300 feet into Rapuni Gorge, having a miraculous escape from death. Irving suffered from shock and abrasions. Carman has a broken collar bone and two broken ribs, and is also severely cut and bruised.
A RETIREMENT
WELLINGTON, June 4
Mr E. M. F. Fairev .Manager of the Eastern Extension Cable Cov. at Wellington has retired and lias been succeeded bv Mr H. M. Cray. The latter is a son of the late William Cray, who was for many years secretary to the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Mepertinent.
MUNN MUP DEB CASE. AUCKLAND, June 4
The question of the admissibility of certain evidence given at the trial of Arthur Thomas Munn, who was convicted of murder, has been referred by •lifeuee Herdinaii to -the Court of Appeal which opens at Wellington on June 94th.

A formal verdict that deceased died from head injuries, accidently received on May 10, was returned by the Coroner at the inquest into circumstances surrounding the death of William Stafford Anderson, 08. engineer of the Canada who was killed when a cear he was driving failed to take a turning at Ton mi i railway crossing near Fcilding Detective Barling said lie first met deceased in 102.1 in Auckland. He was Pom in 1802 in Chatham, New Brunswick and was a civil engineer. He had no relatives in the Dominion. Medical evidence was that deceased died from head injuries. Evidence was givvon by two employees ot Bunnythorpe Hotel, deceased called there giving the name of Brice and offered to drive Hi,.in to Eeiiding to attend the pictures. He missed the intersection at Tiinnni, jammed on the brakes, and the ear capsized, deceased being fatally inj tiled.
