GAS TRAGEDY. ■ AUCKLAND, Nov. 30. A verdict of suicide was recorded by the coroner’s inquest held to-day on Robert Janies McKenzie, 45, who was found bv his wife in the kitchen at his residence at Ponsonby near a gas stove with a cloth over his head. He had been in ill-healtli and unemployed.
AN AUCKLAND SENSATION. AUCKLAND, Dec. 1. Frederick George Devey, aged 42 year, a carpenter, is in the hospital with a wound in the throat, Pie is in a serious condition. He was found at a house in Morningside, where his wife, who is separated from him, lives. The neighbours heard screams c-ome from the house early last evening, and Airs Devey and her young child later ran outide. A neighbour found Devey on the floor of the kitchen, wounded in the throat, and a knife nearby. Airs Devey alleges that she was thrashed by her husband with a poker, whereupon she ran outside. ANAESTHETIC VICTIM. DTJNEDIN, Dec. 1. An inquest was held on Saturday on the body of Albert Jacob Turnbull, of North-east Valley, who died under an anaesthetic at the Dunedin Hospital on Friday. The Coroner found that- death was due to heart failure, whilst radium treatment was being administered, and that every care was taken by the hospital authorities.
MOTOR CYCLIST. FATAL COLLISION. DUNEDIN, Dee. 1. Stanley Omond .aged 19 years, telephone exchange clerk at Roxburgh, while returning home from his duties at 1.30 a.m. on Saturday, was knocked down hv a motor ear. He was brought to Dunedin Hospital, suffering from a compound fracture of the right leg and severe shock. The young man died at 9.4 b the same evening. An inquest was opened and was adjourned to Roxburgh,
