Giving judgment in an involved will case to-day, concerning the estate of Mrs Margaret Kerr, of New Brighton, who left an estate valued at £II,OOO, Judge Adams said one passage in the. will had no intelligible meaning consistent with the general tenor of the will, and must have been placed there by some blundering draftsman or copyist. The effect of the judgment is to include all children and grandchildren of Mrs Kerr in a share of bequests. The nonsensical passage is thrown out. SH GOT IN G ACC I DENT. TAUMARUNUT, August 15. As the result of a shooting accident at Oliura yesterday, A. R. Brown, aged 18, was removed to Taumarunui Hospital with a pea-rifle bullet in bis knee. Brown and another youth were loading tbe rifle when tbe cartridge jammed and exploded as tbe breech was pushed home. YOUNG LARRIKINS. BLENHEIM, Aug. 15.
A stern determination to stamp out larrikin ism, was expressed by a Magistrate at a sitting of tbe children’s court, when four youths, aged 16 to 18, pleaded guilty to- charges of being rogues and vagabonds in that they were found by night without lawful excuse, on the scow “Echo” at Blenheim wharf. Tbe youngest of the accused was further charged with wilful damage. The prosecution declared a gang of hoodlums had been causing extensive damage to wharves, sheets and vessels. On the night in question the youngest member of tile quartette was locked in a cabin on the “Echo.” It was in his efforts to- escape that be committed the damage and attracted the attention of the owner. Mr Maimscll, S.M. placed the Iml under supervision of tbe Child Welfare Officer. Tho ringleader was placed on probation for two years and the other two escaped with six months’ probation. WHISKY AT MAORI WEDDING AUCKLAND, Aug. 10.
At the Police Court, Mr McKeen S.M. fined Thomas Henry Mordnunc Barry £25 for supplying whisky for consumption in the Maori Council District of Horoutu. Barry took two eases of whisky to a Maori Pa wlio.ro a wedding was in progress. There were free tights all night and one native was kicked unconscious.
