COMMENT ON RACES. (Received this dny nt 10.15 a.in.) SYDNEY, Oct. 31. The “ Herald,” commenting on the Victorian Derby says: “Displaying great courage, Trivalve outclassed bis opponents and forced bis name to be included in the list of dual Australian Derby winners. It was a popular victory due in no small measure to accomplished horsemanship of Jockey Lewis. As the horses swung into the straight there appeared to be some interference in which Trivalve suffered, but Lewis extricated bis mount in such a manner that he was able to make his way between Merry -Mint and Avant Courier. He then urged the colt on niul had no difficulty in winning by three lengths. Referring to the Victorian Derby the. “Daily Telegraph” says: “Once in the straight Lewis called upon Trivalve for his effort. Responding immediately, Trivalve ran' up to the leaders. Merry Mint and Avant Courier, and in a few strides ero the distance was reached, he, had a fair lead. Over the last furlong Trivalve came right away from his opponents and passed the judge’s box three lengths in front of Statesman.”
